Our first Adopt A Road clean up of Effingham Road for this year is scheduled for this Saturday, May 1st. Meet at the corner of Effingham and Metler (parking lot of the Slate Company) at 2pm. Clean up equipment (bags, safety vests) will be provided. Make sure to wear closed toe shoes and bring gloves. If enough people show up, it should only take 45 minutes to clean up the stretch of Effingham from 16 Road to Highway 20.

We are looking for club members to help with putting on this race. Volunteers are needed to help with various tasks including marshalling corners, registration, course setup and cleanup after the race. If you can help out, please fill out the volunteer signup form

Just a reminder that the spring Pub Night is this Saturday evening, March 6.

Thanks to all the club members who came out on Saturday afternoon and did a super clean up of Effingham Road, from 16 Road to Highway 20. With all hands on deck, the clean up took about 45 minutes.

Congratulations to Emily Allan and Rick Clift, the 2009 Old School Time Trial Champions! Emily's time was 23:33 and Rick's was 21:39 for the 14.6km Silverdale course, very good times considering the conditions all the riders were competing under. Full results are posted on the Time Trial Page.

Cancer has touched all of us in one way or another. On September 20th there is a ride to help raise money to build a regional cancer centre right here in St. Catharines. In addition to participants for the event we are in need of volunteers to help make this a successful and safe riding event. The first day of spring is tomorrow (hard to believe) and the Saturday morning Rockway Club ride is starting up again for another season. This ride leaves from the Rockway Community Centre at 9am Saturday mornings and is intended for those club members looking for an organized ride that is a little less "intense" than the 8:15am Fryin' Guys club ride.

Our final race night and final ride of the season is Monday, Sept. 24th. We will be holding a two-part TT through the local trails. All the volunteers have generously donated to come up with some excellent awards for the night. Please show up early so that we can roll out at 6:00pm SHARP and DO NOT GO TO THE DUMP!

There is a call for rain tonight. Please keep an eye on the sky before you head out to the ride. Also the trails may be too wet from yesterday's rain. We are still going ahead with the ride as planned. If the trails are too wet, we will head out on back country roads for some paceline instruction and road training.

The Provincial TT Championships will be held in Wellandport on Saturday, Sept 8. We are looking for people to help with marshalling, registration and to help at the Start/Finish line. I don't have all the details as of yet but we will need help from approximately 8:00am to 2:00pm Saturday.

Please note all riders!
Roland Road just east of Sulfur Springs Road has some major construction on it, with lots of large gravel patches right across the road.
If you are riding on Roland, be very careful, especially heading east from Effingham.

The "technique of the week" will be changing flat tires. Please head out to your favourite LBS (local bike shop) and pick up the tools you'll need if you don't already have them - air pump or C02 cartridge, tube with proper valve, presta or shraeder and a set of tire levers.

Monday, May, 28th, 07, will be the first Dump Race for the A and B group. C's will ride as they have been and will begin racing in June. Meet at the same time and place.

This event is pre-registration only on the OCA website, and closes Friday at 10:00am. Registration issues can be sent to president@stcatharinescc.com.

Registration for the race is via the Ontario Cycling Association's website. A lot of people are having trouble finding the link, so here goes: On their main page, look for 2 circles or buttons right above the "New 2007 Ability Based Road Racing Rules and Regulations" link. Darko Ficko (La Bicicletta/J. Lindeberg) set a course record in 49:44 at the Provincial Time Trial Championships on September 9, 2006 at Wellandport. The St. Catharines Cycling Club hosted a training event on the Wellandport OCA Provincial Time Trial course on August 27. Wet roads and light drizzle prevailed during the day. It did not stop those eager to test their strength in preparation for the championship event to be held on September 9, 2006.

Inaugural Walter Lavell Cup ‘Old School Classic’ Time Trial Showcases Local Talent

Due to a potential major safety issue on the proposed Road Course for the 2006 Ontario Road Race Championships, the St Catharines CC Exec, in consultation with the OCA, have made the difficult decision to postpone the championships until a later date this summer.
More details will follow on the re-scheduled date for this championship.

With the Road Championships less than a couple of weeks away, we need to firm up volunteer assignments for the event.

The St. Catharines Cycling Club is proud to be hosting the 2006 Niagara Classic. The race will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2006 in the Town of Pelham. Details including start times, distances and entry fees are available on the Niagara Classic page.

The Niagara Classic is quickly approaching. Volunteers are needed for marshalling, support vehicles, finish line, registration as well as directing participants to parking.

The St. Catharines Cycling Club will be having an info day/ meet and greet day on Saturday (April 22), 2:00pm at Burgoyne Woods, for any kids and their parents, interested in the Youth MTB program.

Membership in the Youth MTB program is open to kids aged 11 - 16.

Parents that wish to help with the organization are asked to attend as well in order to complete a list of volunteers and to assign tasks.

The Saturday morning moderate pace Rockway rides will be continuing each Saturday morning, weather permitting.
This club ride leaves from Rockway Community Centre at 9am Saturday mornings and is intended for those club riders who are looking for an alternative ride to the main Satruday morning club ride that leaves Fryin' Guys at 8:15am
The route usually heads west towards Smithville and may take in one climb of the escarpment if the riders present feel like a work out.

The St Catharines CC custom club helmets are now available.
The helmets are a 2006 Bell Ghisallo helmet, customized to the club colours.
The helmets can be purchased from Brant Cycle in Burlington.
Proof of 2006 club membership and ID will be required in order to purchase a helmet.

Proposals for club teams must meet the requirements in the team policy. Proposals should be submitted to the club executive before the end of March.

As many of you are aware, in 2004 a few members of the SCCC started a Youth MTB group. The purpose of this group was to provide an opportunity for youth cyclists from the ages of 11-16 to develop their cycling skills and expose them to competitive cycling.
